Children looking for their parents

The surviving children who were rescued were taken to the headquarters of the Colombian Family Welfare Institute (ICBF), as well as adoption homes and shelters. From there they were quickly adopted in Colombia and abroad. As of today (2018), the youngest of the Lost Children of Armero is 33 years old. Many of these adults have contacted the Foundation in the hope of finding family members and traces of their identity and family history.

In order to facilitate the search, we have created a 'Sex' filter (male or female), so that relatives can see pictures of these adults and find a resemblance to their missing children. These resemblances can then be corroborated by carrying out a DNA test using a targeted search of specific DNA samples that have already been collected by the Foundation.
